Small-Scale 5G Testbeds for Network Slicing Deployment: A Systematic Review

Developing specialized cloud-based and open-source testbeds is a practical approach to investigate network slicing functionalities in the fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks. This paper provides comprehensive review of most existing cost-efficient small-scale that partially or fully deploy slicing. First, we present relevant software packages for three main functional blocks ETSI NFV MANO framework emulating access core domains. Second, define primary secondary design criteria deploying testbeds. These are later used comparison between Third, state-of-the-art testbeds, including their objectives, key technologies, deployment, experiments. Next, evaluate according defined an in-depth summary table. assessment concludes with superiority some them over rest dominant satisfying framework. Finally, challenges, potential solutions, future works discussed.
